Accident repair
After an accident the last thing you want is to run around. We take care of the full repair and help you through the paperwork with your insurer.
Why bring your damaged car to Green Car
We work with your insurer
We deal with your insurance company and the loss adjuster so you don't have to act as go-between.
Everything in one workshop
Bodywork, chassis jig, paint shop and parts store in the same premises in Las Chafiras. Your car doesn't bounce between garages.
Fewer trips for you
We can collect your car and bring it back repaired, and you can ask about a courtesy car, subject to availability.
What's included
An accident rarely damages just the paint. We check the whole car so it leaves safe, not just looking good.
Check-in and paperwork
We give you a vehicle deposit receipt and go through the accident report and claim details with you.
Full damage check
We look at visible and hidden body damage: brackets, reinforcements, chassis legs, joints and inner parts you can't see from outside.
Working with the assessment
We prepare the information the loss adjuster needs and explain what has been agreed.
Bodywork and structure
We repair or replace panels and, if needed, put the car on the jig to check its measurements.
Paint and finish
We match the colour and paint in our own paint shop, with a lifetime paint warranty.
Final check
We check locks, panel gaps, glass, lights and finish before handing the car back clean.
What your insurance covers depends on your policy and on who was at fault. We help you with the paperwork, but decisions about cover are made by the insurer.
First steps after an accident
If you can, fill in the accident report form at the scene, take photos of the damage and of where the cars ended up, and report the claim to your insurer as soon as possible. If you're unsure what to do at each stage, see our guide on what to do after an accident.
Remember that you have the right to a free choice of repairer: you can tell your insurer you want the car repaired at Green Car. We explain this in more detail in our guide to choosing your repairer.
How we handle the repair
When the car arrives we inspect it thoroughly. A front-end impact may have bent the inner front panel, the headlight mountings or the bumper reinforcement; a side impact may have reached a pillar, a door frame or a sill. We record everything we find so that the loss assessment reflects the real damage, not just what shows from outside.
Once the repair is approved, we order parts and organise the work between bodywork, jig and paint. Meanwhile we keep you updated, and you can check the real-time status of the job.
If we uncover damage during stripping that wasn't visible at first, we stop, photograph it and report it to the insurer so the assessment can be extended. We let you know as well, so nothing comes as a surprise when you come to pick up the car.
- Check for hidden damage before the assessment.
- Structural check on the chassis jig when the impact calls for it.
- Sealing and anti-corrosion protection of the joints we work on.
- Painting in our own paint shop, with colour matching.
- Car handed back clean, inside and out.
If the repair isn't worth it
After a serious accident, the insurer may decide the car is a total loss because the repair costs more than it's worth. If that happens, don't rush into signing anything: read our guide to total loss and ask us. We'll explain your options based on what we know about the car.
And if there was no other party involved, or you only have third-party cover, we'll give you a written estimate so you can decide calmly. There's more on our accidents and claims page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use the garage my insurer suggests?
No. As a rule you can choose where your car is repaired. Tell your insurer when you report the claim and we'll liaise with them.
Who pays for the repair?
It depends on who was at fault and on your policy. If insurance covers it, we work with the company; if there's an excess or something isn't covered, we tell you before we start.
Will I have a car while mine is being repaired?
We offer a courtesy car, subject to availability. Some policies include one too, so check yours or ask us.
Can you collect the car if it won't start?
If the car can't be driven, it's usually moved by your insurer's roadside assistance. You'll find the numbers on our assistance phone numbers page. Ask them to bring it to our workshop in Las Chafiras.
What warranty does the repair have?
Every repair has a minimum legal warranty and, on top of that, our paintwork comes with a lifetime paint warranty.
We work with your insurance company
If your car has suffered an incident covered by your insurance, you don't have to be the go-between: we coordinate with your insurer and its loss adjuster so the repair is authorised and done properly.
It's one of the reasons many customers come to us: less paperwork, fewer phone calls and the car back the way it should be.

See serviceWhat people often believe, and what actually happens
Six ideas we often hear at the garage that are worth clearing up.
“A car that's been in an accident is never right again.”
If the structure is brought back to its measurements on a jig and joints, sealing and protection are reproduced as at the factory, the repair is sound and safe.
“My insurer decides where my car is repaired.”
As a rule you can choose the garage. Some policies offer perks at their partner garages: we help you read yours before you decide.
“A small dent can wait.”
A scrape that lifts the paint leaves bare metal exposed. With the sun and salty air in the south of the island, corrosion sets in sooner than you think.
“Eco-friendly paint is lower quality.”
A paint with fewer solvents can give an equally durable finish. What makes the difference is the preparation and the application.
“A used car that looks good has never been in a crash.”
A well-polished respray can go unnoticed at first glance. A paint thickness gauge and a check of panel gaps, sealing and welds give it away.
“It doesn't matter where it's painted: paint is paint.”
What you can't see —surface preparation, anti-corrosion protection and painting in a booth— is what decides how long the repair lasts.
