Partial respray

A scratch on the door or a scuffed bumper doesn't mean painting half the car. We paint only what's needed and blend the colour so the result is invisible.

Why a well-done partial respray matters

Nobody should notice

The challenge with painting one panel is getting the shade to match its neighbours. That's why we take colour matching seriously.

Only what's needed

Painting just the damaged area saves material, time and money compared with painting whole panels unnecessarily.

With a lifetime warranty

Even a small touch-up is covered: our paintwork comes with a lifetime paint warranty.

What's included

A partial respray has the same steps as a full one, just focused on one area. That's why precision is key.

Colour analysis

We identify your car's colour and check how the paint has aged in the sun so we can adjust the shade.

Preparing the area

We sand, fix small defects and apply primer only where it's needed.

Painting and blending

We apply the colour and blend it into the surrounding panels to avoid a visible change in shade.

Clear coat and polish

We clear-coat the panel and polish the transition area so the gloss is even.

On colours badly aged by the sun or on some special finishes, matching the shade can be harder. If we expect to blend into the next panel too, we'll say so in the estimate.

The secret is matching the colour

Every car has a factory paint code, but that code is only the starting point. Paint on a car that has spent years in the southern Tenerife sun isn't exactly the shade it was when new, and there are small variations between production batches too. That's why colour matching is the most delicate part of a partial respray.

We mix the paint, make test cards and compare them with the car in daylight. With metallic paint or pearlescent finishes, as well as the shade we need to control how the flakes lie, because that changes how the colour looks from different angles.

What blending means

Even with a perfectly adjusted shade, painting a panel right up to its edge and leaving the next one untouched can leave a visible line. To avoid it, we blend: we fade the colour gradually into the neighbouring panel and cover everything with clear coat. The eye finds no edge and the change between panels goes unnoticed.

That's why an estimate sometimes includes part of the neighbouring panel even though it isn't damaged. It isn't painting more than necessary: it's what stops the repair from showing when you look along the side of the car or catch it in the late-afternoon sun.

  • Scratches that have gone through to the colour coat.
  • Bumpers scuffed while manoeuvring or parking.
  • Wings or doors repaired after a knock.
  • Areas where the sun has lifted the clear coat, such as the roof or bonnet.
  • Finishing a new, unpainted replacement panel.

Partial or full respray

If only one or two panels are damaged, a partial respray is the logical choice. If sun damage affects almost every horizontal and side surface, a full respray may make more sense so the whole car looks the same. We'll give you both options where it makes sense.

If the damage came from a collision with another car, insurance may cover it: see our insurer liaison service. And if it's a light scratch that hasn't gone through the clear coat, polishing may be enough. Send us photos on WhatsApp or ask for an estimate and we'll advise you.

Frequently asked questions

Will the colour difference show?

That's what we work to avoid. We match the shade to the actual condition of your paint and blend into the neighbouring panels. If we see any particular difficulty, we'll tell you first.

Why are you painting part of the next door too?

That's blending: fading the colour gradually stops a line showing between a freshly painted panel and one with years of sun on it.

Can I wash the car straight away?

We recommend waiting a few days before using a pressure washer or brushes, so the clear coat can fully cure. We'll let you know when we hand the car back.

Does a small scratch need paint?

It depends how deep it is. If it only affects the clear coat, polishing often sorts it. If it reaches the colour or the metal, it needs painting.

Common misconceptions

What people often believe, and what actually happens

Six ideas we often hear at the garage that are worth clearing up.

“A car that's been in an accident is never right again.”

If the structure is brought back to its measurements on a jig and joints, sealing and protection are reproduced as at the factory, the repair is sound and safe.

“My insurer decides where my car is repaired.”

As a rule you can choose the garage. Some policies offer perks at their partner garages: we help you read yours before you decide.

“A small dent can wait.”

A scrape that lifts the paint leaves bare metal exposed. With the sun and salty air in the south of the island, corrosion sets in sooner than you think.

“Eco-friendly paint is lower quality.”

A paint with fewer solvents can give an equally durable finish. What makes the difference is the preparation and the application.

“A used car that looks good has never been in a crash.”

A well-polished respray can go unnoticed at first glance. A paint thickness gauge and a check of panel gaps, sealing and welds give it away.

“It doesn't matter where it's painted: paint is paint.”

What you can't see —surface preparation, anti-corrosion protection and painting in a booth— is what decides how long the repair lasts.
