Full respray
A good full respray is mostly preparation. We strip, sand and repair what's needed before painting in the booth, so the finish lasts under the Tenerife sun.
Why go for a full respray
Sun-damaged paint
In the south of the island it's common to see roofs, bonnets and tailgates with cracked or faded clear coat. When it affects most of the car, a full respray gives an even finish.
Colour change
If you want to give your car a new look, we paint it in the colour you choose, with the paperwork checks that go with it.
Lifetime paint warranty
Our paintwork comes with a lifetime warranty, so we stand behind it for the long term.
What's included
You see the paint; you don't see the preparation. But preparation is what separates a finish that lasts from one that fails early.
Initial assessment
We check the condition of the paint, metal and plastics to know what needs repairing before painting.
Removing trim
We take off lights, mouldings, handles and other parts to paint underneath and avoid tape lines and hard edges.
Sanding and preparation
We remove damaged clear coat, repair small dents and apply the right primer.
Painting in the booth
We paint in a paint booth, a controlled environment that keeps dust down and helps the paint cure properly.
Clear coat and final polish
We apply protective clear coat and polish out small imperfections for a deep shine.
Refit and handover
We refit everything, check locks and lights and hand the car back clean.
The result depends a lot on the starting point. If there's deep rust or poor old repairs, they'll need dealing with before painting, and we'll set that out in the estimate.
When a full respray makes sense
Painting a whole car is a big decision, and not always the right one. If the damage is limited to one or two panels, a partial respray with good colour matching is usually enough. A full respray pays off when the deterioration is spread across most of the body, when you want a colour change or when you're restoring a car you want to keep for many years.
In southern Tenerife, the sun is paint's biggest enemy. UV light breaks down the clear coat, which first loses its gloss, then turns milky and finally cracks and peels. Once it reaches that point, polishing won't help: it needs sanding and repainting.
What we do before painting
The quality of a full respray is decided before the spray gun comes out. We wash and degrease, remove everything that can come off and go over the metal inch by inch. We repair dents, treat rust spots and remove old repairs that could cause trouble later. Skipping any of this shows up months later as bubbles, peeling or visible repair marks.
- Thorough wash and degrease of the whole surface.
- Removal of lights, mouldings, handles and badges.
- Repair of dents and corrosion spots.
- Sanding and primer wherever needed.
- Masking of glass, rubbers and areas that aren't painted.
Then comes the order of layers: primer wherever there's bare metal, primer surfacer to level the surface, colour and clear coat. In between, each layer is sanded with progressively finer grit so sanding scratches don't show through the final gloss. Before painting, a tack cloth goes over the whole surface. In the booth, air flows from top to bottom to carry away dust and fumes, and each layer is left to dry for as long as the paint manufacturer specifies. Respecting those times avoids defects such as orange peel or bubbling.
Changing colour: what you should know
If you change your car's colour, you'll normally need to report it so it appears on the vehicle's documents. We suggest checking this before you decide. With a colour change you also need to decide whether to paint inner areas such as door shuts, under the bonnet or inside the boot; we talk it through with you, because it makes a big difference to the work and the result.
You can choose from solid, metallic or pearlescent colours and finishes. And if the environmental impact matters to you, we use eco-balance paint.
Warranty and next steps
Our paintwork comes with a lifetime paint warranty. To get started, ask for an estimate: we'll look at the car, explain what it needs and give you an idea of timing. If you can't bring it in, we can arrange collection and delivery.
Frequently asked questions
How long will the car be in the workshop?
A full respray takes several days because of the preparation and the drying time between coats. We give you an estimate in the quote based on the car's condition.
Do you paint door shuts and the boot as well?
If you keep the same colour, it usually isn't necessary. If you change colour, we discuss it with you, as it depends how much you mind the old colour showing.
Do I need to tell the authorities if I change colour?
The colour appears on the vehicle's documents, so it's normally reported. We recommend confirming this before making the change.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
It covers our paintwork. We explain the conditions on the lifetime paint warranty page and when we hand the car back.

See serviceWhat people often believe, and what actually happens
Six ideas we often hear at the garage that are worth clearing up.
“A car that's been in an accident is never right again.”
If the structure is brought back to its measurements on a jig and joints, sealing and protection are reproduced as at the factory, the repair is sound and safe.
“My insurer decides where my car is repaired.”
As a rule you can choose the garage. Some policies offer perks at their partner garages: we help you read yours before you decide.
“A small dent can wait.”
A scrape that lifts the paint leaves bare metal exposed. With the sun and salty air in the south of the island, corrosion sets in sooner than you think.
“Eco-friendly paint is lower quality.”
A paint with fewer solvents can give an equally durable finish. What makes the difference is the preparation and the application.
“A used car that looks good has never been in a crash.”
A well-polished respray can go unnoticed at first glance. A paint thickness gauge and a check of panel gaps, sealing and welds give it away.
“It doesn't matter where it's painted: paint is paint.”
What you can't see —surface preparation, anti-corrosion protection and painting in a booth— is what decides how long the repair lasts.
